 IF - Rudyard Kipling

1. Justify the title of Rudyard Kipling’s poem ‘IF’?

-the author gives pieces of advice letting his son choose 





2. What are the qualities the poet talks about in the poem ‘If ‘by Rudyard Kipling? 

1st stanza 
-  keep your calm in different situations 
- self -confident in one's ability and integrity 
- be patient and truthful 
- hate is not a way to go 
- not be arrogant or showy ( ' artificial ' ) 

2nd stanza 
- dream big but think deeply ( there is sacrifice on the way to the dream ) 
- have the mental strength to handle with any situation in life : success or failure 
- also have the strength of hearing your words twisted for different reasons 
- do not give up whatever happens  

3rd stanza 

- one should have the courage and determination to take big risks for good reasons 
- one should force himself even when it is old ; you need toughness of character to do so 

4th stanza

- be able to  socially interact with all social classes , behaving the same with all of them 
- care, but not too much because you have to be balanced even if that person disappears from your life 
- be attentive not to be disappointed either by foes or friends because when you are sad you are vulnerable 
- realize the value of time ; it is vital for success and for your wellbeing
